One of the perks of being a photographer is having the ability to take photos of whoever, whenever. While it may not be Bluejay's favorite, some of the photos I enjoy taking of us the most are our Christmas photos! Remember last year? I love the fresh snow, and the festive colors! Bluejay isn't a fan of the cold frigid temperatures we had during this shoot, but I'm pretty happy about how they turned out! Again I had to battle with the self-timer and my camera on a tripod. What made it even more difficult this year, was trying to beat the 10 second timer while trudging through snow past my knees! This year we incorporated some of our favorite things: our matching buffalo plaid mittens made from recycled vintage sweaters, and COFFEE! I also painted a old vinyl record with a holiday greeting.

Anticipating this shoot made me lay awake at night with both anxiousness and excitement. It was so far out of my comfort zone and totally stretched me as a professional photographer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE working with natural light, outside, with fun locations that give character to photos. So when Kit told me she wanted to shoot photos in late November for her personal training and fitness modeling portfolio, I racked my brain for a fun location that wouldn't be freezing. Then Kit told me that her dad owns a studio in Minneapolis. It's not just any studio. This place is seriously cool. The seamless white wall is HUGE! And there are so many neat nooks and crannies. It's the kind of studio where they film commercials and such. The weekend that we shot photos for her portfolio, we shared the stage with people shooting a commercial for Schwinn Bikes. In fact, after watching our photo shoot, they ended up casting Kit to be in the commercial because the original girl could no longer do it. Talk about a good thing to put on the resume right away!
We did photos in two parts. The first day, we took head shots and images that highlighted her body for her fitness modeling portfolio. The next day, we took more fitness related photos for her personal training website. When Kit emailed me she told me that while her husband was deployed for the Navy last year she discovered her love for working out and got in the best shape of her life. I knew she'd look good when we met, but I never imagined she'd look that FANTASTIC! Kit, who wouldn't want to hire you with the hopes of turning out half as good as you look. I mean, heck! I've been in the gym everyday since the shoot haha. And you will make a terrific fitness model! You definitely made my job easy! The shoot may have been out of my comfort zone, but it was such a fun way to learn! Like being tossed into the deep end.
